Construction explores the management of people, processes and materials on specific building projects and across the entire building industry.
Just as the building industry embraces both building and commerce, so too do studies in construction, with subjects undertaken in everything from construction and structures to management and law. The skills you learn are relevant to the real world, with site visits and guest speakers from industry an important part of the program.
Applicants for this major must have completed Units 3 and 4 Mathematical Methods or equivalent.
Students majoring in Construction would be suited to positions in the building and construction industry in areas including:
- Construction management
- Contract administration
- Project management
This major can also lead to further study in the Master of Construction Management at Melbourne.

You must achieve the minimum ATAR (if indicated) to be considered for entry to this degree. The Clearly-in Rank may be above the Minimum ATAR, depending on the demand for the course and the number of places available.
A study score of at least 25 in Units 3 and 4 of English/English Language/Literature or at least 30 in EAL (English as an Additional Language).
A study score of at least 25 in Units 3 and 4 of VCE Mathematical Methods (or equivalent) is required for the following majors: Civil Systems, Computing, Construction, Mechanical Systems, Property and Spatial Systems.
A bridging subject will be available for students who have completed the equivalent of VCE Mathematical Methods Units 1 and 2 or who have received a study score below 25 in VCE Mathematical Methods Units 3 and 4 (or equivalent).
Some double majors are only possible if students have completed specific subjects in VCE or equivalent.
